SOUTHERN EXPRESS HIGHWAY FACT SHEET

Charges for travelling in the express Southern highway ranges from Rs 400/- to Rs 2000/-

The Southern express highway is due to be opened on the 27th November. Appended below is a list of the charges.
Name of the Highway- Express 1 (E 1)
The length of the highway- Kottawa to Galle
Time duration from kottawa to Galle- 50 minutes to 60 minutes.
The length- 95 kilometres- Number of lanes- 04
The expenditure for construction- Rs 70 billion
Maximum speed- 100 kmp/hour
Minimum speed- To be notified later after 6 months
Vehicles not allowed- Three wheelers, Motor cycles, Bicycles and Tractors. Up to 6 months buses will not be allowed to ply.
Pre religious Activities- On November 18th on President’s birthday
Exhibition to Public- November 19-20
Opening Day- November 27th 2011.
Venue of the opening day- Karandeniya under the patronage of the Hon. President.
CHARGES
To travel the entire distance from Kottawa to Galle- For cars, cabs, vans (up to 9 seats), Lorries ( 2 axels and 4 wheels)and trucks. Rs 400/-
For vans and busses with 9 to 22 seats Rs 700/-
Buses with over 22 seats (with 6 wheels and 3 axels) Rs 1500/-
Motor coach buses and Lorries with 4 axels Rs 2000/-
In accordance with short distances the charges will vary
Penalty for entering the highway without permission Rs 5000/-
