A fight at the Final of schools of U-18 Rugby finals. Revenge taken for losing from Thurstanite Rugby players from victorious Lalith Athulathmudali players
It is reported that after losing the U- 18 all island inter school Rugby finals to Lalith Athulathnmudali Maha Vidyalaya, by a narrow margin the players had been assaulted by the loser’s the Thurstanite team. After this assault a number of players of the Lalith Athulathmudali Vidyalaya team had to be admitted to the Colombo National Hospital for treatment.
The Thurstanite team after conceding a close defeat by a margin 23- 20 points, without having the sportsmanship ability to accept defeat had assaulted the players of the Lalith Athulathmudali team. One player who sustained head injuries was in a serious condition as his bleeding could not be stopped. His picture is shown clearly in the photo beneath.
It is worth bringing to notice that in last year’s final all island inter school u-18 between the Panadura Royal College and St Sylvester’s College kandy a similar occurrence had taken place. In order to prevent such occurrences in the future even the President’s interference was needed.
In spite of this earlier incident this final too had taken place without transparency. The organisation of this final was under the purview of the Western Province Rugby Association.
The pictures shown below says it all
