The era of climbing to Sri Pada is over
A new cable transport service to the apex of Sri Pada
The era of climbing up to the Sri Pada and climbing down from Sri Pada for pilgrims is to be over soon. The latest news is that a new cable transport service for pilgrims is to commence soon.
It is planned to commence from a spot near Nallathanniya up to the apex of Sri Pada Mountain from where cables are to be installed. However there have been negative views by pilgrims that they want to climb the Sri Pada as pilgrims the hard way by overcoming hardships and obstacles and amidst many barriers. Climbing to the apex the way the pilgrims have done to date is a more meritorious deed, than having a very smooth journey, as the main motive of the pilgrimage is hampered.
This cable transport service it is learnt that would be to cater for tourists and physically handicapped, feeble and crippled pilgrims. This was learnt from the Chief Incumbent of Sri Pada temple Ven.Dhampahala Sheelananda Thero. About this proposed exercise he has already informed the Chief Incumbents of Malwatta and Asgiriya Chapters.
It is certain that leaving aside the tourists and the physically handicapped pilgrims making use of this facility, the politicians would be delighted to make merry with this facility.
