Is the incident Yoshita tried to shoot Basil on the first floor of ‘Temple Trees’ true?
A rumour was spread a few days back of an incident where Yoshita Rajapaksa, son of President had attempted to shoot Basil his uncle on the first floor at ‘Temple Trees’. This it is learnt had been prevented when the President had intervened. This story had been published in a certain ‘web site’. In this connection to reveal the truth the story was published when a journalist at the ‘Sunday Divaina’ has had an interview with Basil Rajapaksa. He had added that this had been spread to a rumour that the Rajapaksa family is one devoid of unity. The excerpts of the question asked and the answer given are appended below:
Q: There was a lot of talk that you have had a lot of clashes with M.P. Namal Rajapaksa. This was widely published in several media. The incident reported in the web site that Yoshita, President’s second son had tried to shoot you while in the first floor at ’Temple Trees’, has any truth. What is this conflict?
A: “This type of culpable stories, are invariably published in web sites, which are Media Institutions devoid of responsibility. They publish these stories without much hassle. Earlier there were stories that the Rajapaksa family is a truly united family. Now it is reported as a non united family I categorically state that the unity that prevails within us is our real strength and we are fortunate to possess it. In this country there are political, business and families that consist of ‘artistes’. Amongst these families the Rajapaksa family could be identified and proved as the most united family. We hail from the D.M. Rajapaksa generation and our father D.A.Rajapaksa generation who had been in politics for decades and never had any collisions. When this story was heard by the president he had telephoned Yoshitha. He then telephoned me and told about this rumour published in a ‘web site’.
Then only I came to about it. Those who had spread may not have united families, and some may not have families at all. From the same areas all Rajapaksa’s emerged while only Shashendra contested in Uva Province at the last general election. He obtained the highest number of preferential votes from Uva and is now the ’Chief Minister’ of Uva Province. M.P Namal Rakapaksa has got a massive number of youth representatives and with them are drawing new projects and programmes in various fields for the benefit of the youth. The strength the President gave with confidence to lead the Gampaha electorate as the leader was enormous and I performed it to precision. This type of rumours are spread by those who cannot stomach and resist our unity.”
