ST.BRIDGET’S BOUNDARY WALL SPRAY CASE REJECTED

The spray gun wall painting case on St.Bridget convent’s wall rejected.
Attorney General says there is no law to take legal action for spraying one’s thoughts on walls.
 
When the letters “Keliya neda Maharaja vibagayatath, Maharaja gedera arimu’, were sprayed in black on the boundary walls of St.Bridget’s convent, the Cinnamon Gardens Police arrested on the 5th August 2009,the Leader of the Inter Student’s Movement, Upul Premaratna and a member of the movement Gihan Seneviratne, who were subsequently bailed out and a case was filed.
This type of spraying on the walls was seen during the 1988-89 disturbances period too. The case was taken up against the two suspects at the Chief Magistrates Courts, Colombo. The two accused suspects were released as there is no provision in the law to punish for such an offence, the case was withdrawn by Colombo’s Chief Magistrate, Rashmi Singappuli.
