NERANJAN TO CONTEST FOR MAYOR’S SEAT IN KANDY

Neranjan Wijeratne to the Mayor’s chair?

Former ‘Diyawadane Nilame’, Neranjan Wijeratne, is reported to enter politics and he is to contest in the forthcoming Municipal Council elections for the Mayor’s seat in Kandy. These are however still unconfirmed reports.
However it has not yet been confirmed that he is to contest for the Municipal Elections in Kandy and whether he is going to be the candidate for the Mayor’s seat is still not known. This would be revealed by the General Secretary of the UNP, Tissa Attanayake tomorrow.
Neranjan Wijeratne has held the post of ‘Diyawadane Nilame’, for a period of over a decade. He hails from a family affiliated to politics. His brother, Mano Wijeratne, a staunch supporter of SLFP, is the organiser of SLFP’s Dedigama seat.
