SCENES IN THE SOUTHERN HIGHWAY ABOUT TO BE COMPLETED NOT SEEN BEFORE:
The completion of the massive Southern highway is yet to be opened for traffic. The work connected with its completion is predicted to be only by the end of the year. This highway joins the South to the West and its motive is to travel very much faster, enabling the people to save time especially in roads where congestion of traffic is imminent.
One section is still under construction is from Kottawa to Galle, Pinnaduwa, while the other stretch extends from this point to Matara.It is proposed later to extend the highway up to Hambantota. The minimum speed limit on this highway is 60 KMH. It is reported that a tariff would be charged for travelling on this highway and is presently fixed as Rs 3+some cents per Kilometre.
