Pre paid card system, to be introduced for private bus fares
For the convenience of private bus travellers, it was revealed at a Media conference by Gemunu Wijeratne, Chairman of Private Bus Owners Association that a pre paid card system is to introduced very shortly.
Accordingly the bus commuters will have to purchase a pre paid ticket card similar to a credit card. The conductor will only have to issue the related ticket by inserting the card into a machine similar to a Merchant’s machine at super markets etc., which automatically issues a ticket. Simultaneously the bus owner’s account is credited.
What the commuter has to do is from time to time to get his card reloaded to accumulate a balance. In this case the balance to be paid does not arise, and the conductor does not receive money.
However those who do not possess a pre paid card could purchase a ticket in the usual way. Gemunu Wijeratne has already discussed this matter with cell phone re loading companies in regard to this new proposed system.
