SARATH FONSEKA’S WHITE FLAG STORY

From yesterday’s prolonged speech in the white flag case a whole lot of points subject to discussion and criticism were exposed very bravely by Sarath Fonseka. During his speech when he was about to prove some points about the leaders of the country, there was an abrupt power failure within the court premises for a very short time. Thereafter to continue his speech he was taken near a window with some light and he had to commence his speech from the beginning. This was an unheard extraordinary incident. Some of the excerpts from his speech are stated below in brief.
‘THE STERN DISCIPLINE I DEVELOPED IN THE ARMY HAS BEEN POLITICISED’
“While in uniform I never bowed down to politicians. But I carried out my duties to precision. What I wanted was to maintain highest standards of discipline, the best possible administration and to give the due place to the talented officers. I never performed duties to get marks and to my personal benefit. But the standards of discipline have been lowered to the satisfaction of the politicians and the present standards are at very low ebb.”
His prolonged speech on the white flag case was made under different captions:

“Although there is peace I am not independent.
I restructured the entire army.
Shavendra let me down badly.
I worked tirelessly day and night.
When I was in China I monitored the war from there.
There were several plans to kill me.
Gotabhaya embraced me in hospital.
President’s ceasefire agreement was a big loss to us.
At the final moments Gotabhaya wished me.”
Under the above topics he elaborated true facts of the entire operation until his speech was postponed for today for continuation.
