One person has died and another has been hospitalized after a knife attack targeting two food delivery workers in Melbourne's Central Business District (CBD) in Australia during the night. Following this tragic incident, which occurred last night (Friday), the Victoria Police Homicide Squad launched a comprehensive investigation, and by this morning, security forces were able to arrest a suspect in connection with the incident.

Emergency services were called to the Frederick Way area near Queen Victoria Market at approximately 8:10 PM on Friday night, following reports of a stabbing. The food delivery worker, who had already sustained severe stab wounds, received intensive treatment from paramedics at the scene. Despite being given CPR, his life could not be saved. He was subsequently officially pronounced dead at the scene. Police state that the identity of the deceased has not yet been officially confirmed.

Shortly after, not far from the premises where this incident occurred, investigators were able to locate another individual with suspicious stab wounds. The other food delivery worker, a 34-year-old in his thirties, had also been attacked with a knife and sustained injuries. Although he was immediately hospitalized, his injuries are reported to be non-life-threatening.

Police investigators suspect that the altercation began when the two food delivery workers saw someone tampering with or attempting to damage their bicycles and went to question him about it. During the ensuing argument and confrontation, one worker was killed and the other was injured. Homicide Squad officers are taking steps to determine if this was a targeted attack and to uncover the specific circumstances that led to the assault.

To conduct investigations into the incident, police completely cordoned off the area between Queen Street and A'Beckett Street in Melbourne, designating it as a crime scene and commencing evidence collection.

Although the suspect had fled after the attack, by this morning, a 51-year-old man was arrested by Victoria Police in the Footscray area. The arrested suspect is scheduled to be questioned further, and police confirmed that no other individuals are being sought in connection with this incident.
