One person died after youths assaulted each other during a night wedding party in Homagama Godagama.

A joyous wedding ceremony ended, leaving behind an unexpected tragedy. A clash between two groups of young men who attended a wedding ceremony held at a reception hall in Godagama, Homagama area, ultimately resulted in one of the young men losing his life.

Meegoda Police, who are investigating the incident, stated that the clash occurred yesterday (5) evening.

This unfortunate incident began inside the very reception hall where the wedding was held. Initially, an argument broke out between the two groups of young men, which gradually escalated.

It is reported that the verbal exchange that occurred inside the hall did not end there, but later escalated into a clash outside the reception hall. The clash broke out among approximately 20 young men who came out of the hall after the argument inside.

One young man, who was hospitalized at Homagama Base Hospital after the clash, has thus died.

The person who tragically lost his life is a 34-year-old individual. The police stated, providing information about the incident, that he was a resident of Kiriwaththuduwa, Homagama.

However, investigations are underway to determine whether this death was a murder or resulted from an existing medical condition.

Criminal investigation officers from the Nugegoda Police Division who arrived at the scene conducted initial investigations, and Meegoda Police have commenced further inquiries.
