The Colombo High Court has ordered the acquittal of 98-year-old Daisy Forest, grandmother of Yoshitha Rajapaksa, who was accused along with him under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, from the relevant case.
This decision was made by the High Court judge after considering the facts presented that she, who is currently suffering from dementia, is not in a suitable mental state to face a judicial process or trial. Accordingly, she will be acquitted of these charges, which she and Yoshitha Rajapaksa faced under the same case.
Although the grandmother has been acquitted from the case, the trial against Yoshitha Rajapaksa related to this incident will continue.
Today (03), when the charges against him were read out in open court at the Colombo High Court, Yoshitha Rajapaksa stated that he was innocent of those charges.
