A tree falls on the Rambukkana train

Due to a tree suddenly falling onto a moving train amidst the prevailing adverse weather conditions, train services on the main line have been temporarily disrupted.

The train that met with the accident is the one that commenced its journey from Colombo Fort Railway Station at 5:10 PM towards Rambukkana. The Railway Department states that a tree near the track fell onto the train while it was approaching Polgahawela Railway Station.

Although the train was in motion at the time of the accident, it is further reported that no passengers were harmed in this incident.

Authorities have already taken steps to swiftly remove the obstructions to train operations on the main line caused by the fallen tree. Accordingly, it is reported that railway employees are actively working at the site with the aim of clearing the obstacles and restoring the track to normal condition.
