Women were harassed under the guise of offering beauty jobs.

A complaint has been received by the Homagama Headquarters Police regarding an organized group that deceives women under the guise of providing jobs in beauty salons and homes, then goes to their residences to commit various abuses and thefts. This complaint was filed by a woman residing in the Homagama area, who claims that the fraudsters have misused her identity.

These fraudsters have carried out this scam by calling middle-aged women on the phone, claiming to be a TV news announcer and stating that they need female employees for a beauty salon they own. They also inquired if women unwilling to work in the beauty salon would be interested in household work. Police investigations have revealed that this group subsequently went to the homes of women who agreed, under the guise of conducting interviews, and committed various abuses as well as property thefts.

The person (or woman) making phone calls offering fake jobs stated that a monthly salary of eighty thousand rupees would be paid for this job. They deceived women by claiming that in addition, holidays would be given on Sundays and Poya days, they would only have to work from 8 AM to 4 PM, and there would even be facilities for studying while working. However, the complainant emphasized to the police that even though this fraud was committed using her name, she does not own any beauty salon.

The complainant has requested the police to conduct a swift investigation and enforce the law against this group that preys on middle-aged women by showing fake job opportunities and taking undue advantage. So far, no suspects related to the incident have been arrested, and further investigations are underway through the phone numbers used by the fraudsters. Under the instructions of Homagama Headquarters Police Inspector Sumudu Senaratne, a team of police officers is conducting investigations into this matter.
