In the face of a special order issued by the Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court, the individuals engaged in a Satyagraha (non-violent resistance) near Galle Road in front of the Presidential Secretariat have taken steps to dismantle and remove the temporary structures erected there.
As the Presidential Secretariat premises is a high-security zone, the police had requested the court not to allow protests in front of it. In response, the Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court issued this order, and police officers who brought the court order also took steps to read it out and hand it over to the monks participating in the protest.
This protest, organized under the leadership of the Maha Sangha (Buddhist clergy), was known as 'Justice for the Robe - Freedom March'. A group including Buddhist monks had been engaged in this Satyagraha on the road in front of the Presidential Secretariat since yesterday, demanding the release of Venerable Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thero.
However, with the court order read out and handed over by the police, the protesters acted to remove their temporary structures erected near Galle Road from that location.
