A poignant story has been reported from the Henegama area, where the love story of a young couple, who entered wedded life last January after nurturing a love that blossomed during their school days, came to a permanent end due to a sudden road accident. The fact that their final journey was marked in a single grave, for a couple so deeply bound by affection that they couldn't bear to be separated even for a moment, has plunged the entire region into profound sorrow.

R.W. Gihan Randil Rajapaksha, 26, and J.P. Nadeeshani Theja, 26, residents of Imbulgoda, Gampaha, entered into marriage on January 16th. Gihan worked as a mechanical engineer at a private motorcycle company in Colombo, while Nadeeshani served as a management assistant in the cultural section of the Ministry of Buddhasasana, located in Sethsiripaya, Battaramulla. After their marriage, they moved into a house in Gedumana, Henegama, for convenience in commuting to their workplaces.

On the morning of the 9th, as they were commuting to their workplaces on their motorcycle as usual, they faced this unfortunate fate. In the Henegama area, the motorcycle they were riding collided with another motorcycle and then hit a bus traveling on the road, causing both of them to sustain serious injuries. Gihan tragically died at the scene, and his body was placed in the mortuary of Radawana Rural Hospital. Nadeeshani, who had sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the Gampaha District General Hospital, was later reported by family members to have also passed away.

Nadeeshani completed her primary education at Matara Wilayaya Junior College and her G.C.E. Ordinary Level studies at Gotami College, Maradana, Colombo. She enrolled in Henegama National School for her G.C.E. Advanced Level studies, where she met Gihan. Their love affair, which began during their school days, remained steadfast throughout the period until they both obtained degrees from private universities.

The bond between this couple, who happily spent their holidays watching movies and traveling to various places, was very deep. Gihan had even rejected a valuable opportunity to go abroad through his workplace because he couldn't bear to leave his beloved wife and mother alone in the country.

Mrs. Rasika Ranasinghe, 49, the mother of the deceased Nadeeshani, stated that it is a matter of great regret that the valuable service that this young couple, who were engaged in their professional activities with great dedication and skill, could have rendered to the country and its people has been lost.

Meanwhile, residents point out that the majority of accidents in Sri Lanka are motorcycle accidents. They believe that the lack of a suitable safe environment for motorcyclists in the road system, along with unrepaired potholes and unclear road markings, directly contributes to the increase in such accidents.

Mrs. Malkanthi Kumanayake, a relative of the deceased young woman, stated that due to the boundless love of the couple who passed away prematurely, arrangements were made to place both their bodies side by side in the living room of their home. As a tribute to their inseparable love, family members had arranged for the couple's final rites to be conducted and buried in a single grave at the Imbulgoda Kirillawala public cemetery.
