Colombo Magistrate Pasan Amarasekara has issued notices to ten doctors from the medical board treating the former Director of State Intelligence Service, retired Major General Suresh Salley, who has been arrested and detained in connection with the Easter Sunday terrorist attack, to appear before the court on October 06. The Magistrate issued this order after considering a motion submitted to the court by the Criminal Investigation Department.

According to a report issued by a medical board regarding the health condition of the former intelligence chief, who is currently receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital, it was recently revealed at the Fort Magistrate's Court that his heart was swollen. It was further stated in court that a special device had been implanted in his heart to control this condition, spending approximately forty lakhs of government funds. After receiving treatment in the intensive care unit, he was transferred to the hospital's general ward 42 after the Criminal Investigation Department reported the facts to the court.

In a previous court session, the Director of the Colombo National Hospital, Dr. Sampath Indika Kumara, was also ordered to appear before the court to explain why a report on the suspect's health condition and reports related to the five-member medical board were not submitted to the court. Accordingly, he appeared in court, and since the Director of the National Hospital is a public official, Additional Solicitor General Dilipa Peiris appeared on his behalf as well as on behalf of the Criminal Investigation Department, at the request of the Attorney General. The Additional Solicitor General emphasized that he continues to maintain his previous stance that Mr. Suresh Salley's hospitalization is merely a medical conspiracy.

Mr. Peiris pointed out to the court that although a hundred days have passed since a court order was issued, the suspect has still not provided his computer passwords to the investigators, claiming he does not remember them. The Additional Solicitor General, stating that the suspect lacks memory, which is essential for an intelligence chief, accused the doctors of continuing to provide him with 'super facilities' in the hospital, claiming that although his heart-related treatments are over, he has a toothache which is connected to his heart.

The Magistrate inquired from the Director of the National Hospital whether other patients are similarly detained and treated for dental ailments, to which he replied that doctors have recommended that a problem could arise if the antibiotics given for the nerve filling treatment of the tooth are stopped.

According to these medical recommendations, Mr. Suresh Salley has thus been granted permission to remain hospitalized and receive treatment until the 28th. The hospital director stated that after the relevant treatments are completed, he can be released to a suitable environment, and thereafter, the Additional Solicitor General further informed the court that they expect to take the suspect back to the Criminal Investigation Department and commence investigations and interrogations as usual.
