The Attorney General today (06) informed the court that the medical board has recommended that Mr. Suresh Sallay, the former head of the State Intelligence Service, who has been named as a suspect by the Criminal Investigation Department in connection with the Easter Sunday terrorist attack, can be discharged from the hospital. Accordingly, the suspect former intelligence chief, who was receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital, is scheduled to be taken back into the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department this afternoon.

Ten doctors who issued controversial medical reports, claiming that he needed a heart surgery and not a toothache, thereby preventing his discharge from the hospital, and the Director of the Colombo National Hospital, were summoned to appear before the Fort Magistrate's Court. Accordingly, those medical decisions have changed.

Due to Mr. Suresh Sallay being hospitalized since February 25th last year, the criminal investigation activities against him had completely stalled. It is reported that due to this, the President even had to issue relevant orders for his continued detention. However, in this situation, the opposition had continuously tried to avoid obtaining a statement from the suspect and to get him released from custody again.
