Former Municipal Councilor of the Colombo Municipal Council, Mahinda Kahandagama, who represented the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, was arrested this morning (06) by the Central Criminal Investigation Department (CID) with 'ice' drug. This arrest took place after an investigation based on information that he was involved in 'ice' drug trafficking, and he was caught with 'ice' at a restaurant in Nugegoda while attempting to deliver an order for 'ice' after being deceived by a decoy.

During further investigations conducted thereafter, a significant amount of information has been revealed indicating that Mr. Kahandagama maintained very close ties with organized drug traffickers and underworld members.

A series of scenes showing him traveling to Dubai and holding parties with a group of drug traffickers have also been found by investigating officers. It is reported that these scenes feature Chathura Dilrukshan, the brother of the criminal known as 'Modara Nipuna,' and the drug trafficker known as 'Keselwatte Dinuusha,' showing them working very closely with Mr. Kahandagama and addressing him as 'Daddy'.

He also maintained close ties with the drug trafficker known as 'Ibbage Watte Sujee,' and investigators have found information regarding telephone conversations between them. Investigations have also revealed that Mr. Kahandagama had even received death threats due to his failure to pay for 'ice' drug obtained from Sujee.

Meanwhile, an controversial audio recording of a telephone conversation, allegedly made by a drug trafficker threatening Mr. Kahandagama and his daughter with death, has also been made public.

According to the audio recording, the trafficker first calls Mr. Kahandagama's daughter, verbally abuses her with harsh words, and issues death threats. He states that her father has not yet paid the money for 500 grams of 'ice' obtained from him, even after three months, and that he had previously defaulted on payments for a similar transaction. The audio records him severely threatening to shoot her father and attack and shoot their shop if the money is not paid.

Subsequently, Mr. Kahandagama, joining the conversation, is heard pleading with the individual not to panic. He states that he is not trying to defraud anyone and is working to quickly sell a plot of land to settle the outstanding debt. He mentions that a group of buyers came to see the land recently and promises the trafficker that he will sell the land, even for a lower price, and provide the money as soon as possible, which is also included in the audio recording.

This is a telephone conversation between Mahinda Kahandagama's daughter and a person named Ibbage Watte Sujeewa.

"Your father took 500 [grams of] 'ice' from me and defaulted on payment. We will shoot your father. We will shoot your shop too. Right? It's been three months, and you haven't paid the money. Before that, he took 200 [grams] and defaulted. Your mouth is too much, we will hit your shop too."

In addition, other audio recordings related to his 'ice' sales have emerged, indicating that he has accumulated a large amount of money through this over a period of time.

Meanwhile, based on information received from Mr. Kahandagama, another suspect connected to this drug network was arrested in the Nugegoda area with 1100 milligrams of 'ice' drug during a raid.

Both suspects have been taken to the Central Criminal Investigation Department in Narahenpita for further investigations and are scheduled to be produced before the Maligakanda Magistrate's Court today (06) to obtain detention orders.
