A highly tragic incident has been reported from a house in the Manikava area, which falls under the Welamboda Police Division in Kandy. This involves a seventy-year-old father who died after consuming poison, and the discovery of the body of his forty-seven-year-old disabled daughter in a room within the same house.

Welamboda Police suspect that the father killed his daughter and then committed suicide by consuming poison.

The tragedy began on the evening of the 4th. On that day, around 6:00 PM, the father returned home and had an argument with his wife. Police investigations have revealed that around 11:00 PM, he locked his wife in a room from the outside. A short while later, the deceased's wife told the police that she heard her daughter screaming inside the room.

The next day, the morning of the 5th, the wife, who had come out of the locked room, found her husband lying in the veranda after consuming poison while she was checking the house. However, the police are conducting a separate investigation into how she managed to get out of the room that was locked from the outside. With the help of neighbors who came upon hearing her screams, the man who had consumed poison was admitted to Gampola Hospital. He was in critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries at Gampola Hospital.

Subsequently, around 10:00 AM on the same day, a police team visited and inspected the house. There, the police discovered the body of the daughter lying motionless on a bed in a room of the house. Police suspect that the seventy-year-old father may have strangled his daughter to death, and a definitive conclusion can only be reached after the post-mortem examination, the police stated.

Both bodies of the deceased father and daughter were brought to Gampola Teaching Hospital, and arrangements were later made to transfer them to Peradeniya Hospital for post-mortem examinations. Further investigations into the incident are currently being conducted by the Welamboda Police.
