A female public official, who was returning to her office after completing an official duty, had her journey suddenly interrupted on a deserted road when a motorcycle approaching from behind blocked her path. Subsequently, Anguruwathota Police have launched investigations to apprehend two motorcyclists who assaulted her with a sword, robbed her gold chain and pendant, and then fled.
The victim of this cruel attack by robbers is a 45-year-old married mother of one, residing in the Galpatha area of Kalutara. Working as a development officer at the Madurawala Divisional Secretariat, she had traveled by motorcycle from her office to the Millaniya Divisional Secretariat for an official duty on the day of the incident. She encountered this incident while returning to the Madurawala Divisional Secretariat after completing her work there.
The robbery occurred around 11:43 AM as she was traveling towards Madurawala along the Waigama road, past Keselehena. At a deserted spot on the road, two individuals on a motorcycle approaching from behind blocked her motorcycle and stopped it. The suspects then struck her on her back shoulder area with a sword they were carrying, at which point she attempted to cover her neck with the jacket she was wearing.
At that moment, the robbers attempted to strike her again with the sword. Frightened by this, she dropped her jacket, after which the suspects managed to snatch the gold chain and its pendant from her neck. The robbers then fled the scene.
In her statement to the police, the assaulted official mentioned that these robbers, who had followed her along the road and waited for an opportunity, likely carried out the robbery after waiting at a deserted and unsafe location.
The official, who sustained injuries from the sword attack, was first admitted to Haltota Hospital for treatment and later transferred to Horana District General Hospital for further medical care.
No suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident yet, and Anguruwathota Police are conducting further investigations.
