The Bribery Commission has taken steps to prohibit four bank accounts containing approximately 40 million rupees and two luxury motor vehicles belonging to Mr. Rakhita Rajapaksa, son of former Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapaksa, further expanding the operation to find the missing money in the massive 1.2 billion rupee bribery incident connected to the alleged powerful drug trafficker "Harak Kata".

Commission sources confirmed that although investigation officers visited the housing complex in Rajagiriya where he resides on several occasions to inform him about the prohibition, he was not present there.

This new investigation is based on the incident of releasing the individual known as "Harak Kata," who was held in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department and caused a controversy in the country. Previously, the Bribery Commission took action regarding the receipt of a 1.2 billion rupee bribe from his wife to release the suspect, who was under detention orders, from the Criminal Investigation Department and transfer him to a secure prison.

In connection with this, three individuals, including Rakhita Rajapaksa and Charith Abeysinghe, were arrested and remanded after being produced before the court, and later released on bail by the Colombo Magistrate's Court.

However, investigators have so far been unable to locate the enormous sum of 1.2 billion rupees allegedly received by the suspects as a bribe. Following this, the Bribery Commission launched a new investigation targeting their assets under the Proceeds of Crime Act concerning the missing money.

As a result of that asset investigation, a prohibition has been imposed on two luxury motor vehicles and four bank accounts allegedly belonging to Mr. Rakhita Rajapaksa. According to commission sources, there was nearly 40 million rupees in the respective bank accounts alone.

The Bribery Commission further stated that although investigation officers intended to verbally inform Mr. Rakhita Rajapaksa about the imposed prohibition, due to his absence from home on several occasions, the relevant notification was given to his wife.
