Ven. Gnanasara Thero missing again - warrants issued in another case too

The Colombo High Court today (30) issued a warrant for the arrest of Venerable Galagodaatte Gnanasara Thero, the General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena organization, on charges of making statements that insult Islam. The order further states that he should be arrested and immediately produced before the court.

This case was called today in High Court No. 09 before Colombo High Court Judge Buddhika C. Ragala, but since the defendant Gnanasara Thero was not present at that time, the judge issued this warrant. The Attorney General has filed indictments against him in the High Court based on the incident of making statements insulting Islam.

Meanwhile, the Attorney General yesterday (29) filed a motion in the Court of Appeal requesting the cancellation of the presidential pardon previously granted to Gnanasara Thero and the re-implementation of his imposed prison sentence. As he also evaded court when that motion was called, the Court of Appeal also issued a warrant yesterday for his immediate arrest.
