Ugandan national arrested at Katunayake after swallowing 90 cocaine capsules

A Ugandan national who attempted to secretly bring a stock of cocaine into Sri Lanka, hidden inside his abdomen, has been arrested at Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport. Officers of the Airport Channel Control Unit acted to arrest him during a special operation conducted last Sunday afternoon.




The person arrested is a 43-year-old Ugandan farmer. Preliminary investigations have revealed that he arrived at Katunayake Airport via Doha from Entebbe, Uganda. As reported by Mr. T.K.G. Kapila, the suspect attempted to enter the country as a tourist.

The suspect had swallowed 90 capsules of cocaine, and the street value of this drug stock is estimated to be over 50 million rupees. Airport authorities successfully carried out this raid based on confidential intelligence information received.




The arrested suspect has been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department for further investigations. Furthermore, the suspect is to be admitted to Negombo General Hospital with the aim of safely retrieving all the cocaine capsules hidden inside his body.
