Trump rejects Iran's proposed 7-day ceasefire

The joint proposal called the “7-day plan” presented by Iran has been rejected by United States President Donald Trump. According to reports from America's Wall Street Journal (WSJ) newspaper, the President expects to resume air strikes against Iran after the American midterm elections scheduled for next November.

Trump, addressing his close advisors, stated that he has strong doubts about this joint proposal from Iran.

This proposal was made public by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi at a press conference held in New York during the United Nations General Assembly session. He stated that under this 7-day plan, which was conveyed to America through mediators, Iran is prepared to resume naval traffic in the Strait of Hormuz and restart discussions on the Iranian nuclear program by the seventh day, provided America fulfills certain conditions, including ceasing hostile actions in all areas. Although Mr. Araghchi did not present the proposed conditions in detail, it is reported that they are similar to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between America and Iran last June. That MOU included the lifting of American sanctions imposed on Iranian ports and the release of frozen Iranian assets, but it was nullified due to conflicts in the Strait of Hormuz. However, Trump does not believe Iran will fulfill its demands and has stated that there is a high probability of resuming air strikes after the midterm elections. American officials say that Trump's stance could change if the war continues or based on the results of the midterm elections.
