Train services from Nawalapitiya to Badulla are planned to resume from the upcoming December. Nuwara Eliya District Member of Parliament and Chairman of the District Coordinating Committee, Mr. Manjula Suraveerarachchi, confirmed this.
The MP revealed these facts while speaking to the media after participating in an observation tour held yesterday (07) to inspect the reconstruction work being carried out on the railway section around the Great Western and Nanu Oya railway stations, which were severely damaged due to landslides caused by Cyclone Ditwa.
Speaking further, he stated that this stabilization project is being implemented in accordance with the technical recommendations provided by the National Building Research Organisation and JICA. The reconstruction work to restore the railway line and minimize the risk of landslides is currently being carried out by a private company.
For this field observation tour, a group of technical engineers from the Nuwara Eliya District Executive Engineer's Office, including the Executive Engineer of Nanu Oya Railway Station, also participated.
