Although the 22nd Constitutional Amendment has already been passed and is in effect by the Parliament of Sri Lanka, former Member of Parliament G. L. Peiris emphasizes that the process does not end there.

Speaking at a press conference held today (29), he stated that the full power to take decisive action regarding this constitutional amendment inherently rests with a future parliament. Accordingly, he pointed out that a new parliament, to be established after another three years, will not only have the right but also a clear responsibility and a strong duty to completely abolish this 22nd amendment.

According to the accepted fundamental principles of jurisprudence, the current Parliament has absolutely no ability to limit the powers of any future Parliament or to tie their hands. Therefore, Mr. G. L. Peiris further clarified that a future Parliament is in no way bound to accept the decisions made by the current Parliament as they are.
