The grave of Asman, who died in the prison clash, was dug up.

Mattegoda Police have launched an investigation following a complaint that the grave of a powerful member of an underworld gang, who died in a clash at Magazine Prison, had been dug up by some individuals in the cemetery where he was buried. This complaint was lodged with the Mattegoda Police on the 2nd of last month by the relatives of the deceased.

The grave that was dug up belongs to Mohammed Asman Serafdeen, who was imprisoned for drug trafficking and underworld crimes. Considered a shooter for the organized underworld, he was also a suspect in the Ganemulla Sanjeewa murder case. He died from an assault during a heated situation that occurred inside Magazine Prison around 10:20 PM on August 06.

After the body of the deceased was brought to a relative's house in Mattegoda, arrangements were made to bury it in the Mattegoda Muslim Cemetery. However, it was recently observed that someone had dug about one and a half feet deep into the grave where the body was interred, specifically from the foot end. Relatives also allege that the mosque staff re-covered the grave without informing the police or the family members about the incident.

No information regarding any suspects involved in the incident has been revealed yet, and investigations into the incident are underway under the instructions of Mattegoda Police Station OIC, Police Inspector Indika Kumara.
