Fazil Marija, a former captain of the national rugby team, has been appointed as the head coach of the Sri Lanka men's sevens rugby team. Mr. Pavithra Fernando, President of Sri Lanka Rugby, stated that this decision was made with the aim of preparing the team for the rugby tournament at the upcoming Asian Games.
Marija, who possesses a wealth of experience in the local rugby field, has previously served as the head coach for both the Trinity College Kandy rugby team and the Kandy Sports Club. Hailing from a family with a sporting background, he also represented the Sri Lanka national rugby union team and captained it.
Marija, who developed his rugby skills at Kingswood College Kandy, the first school to introduce school rugby to Sri Lanka in the 1890s, married Yasara Abeynayake in 2015.
