A discussion was held at the Parliament complex to review the current progress of the new general education and pre-school education reforms proposed to be implemented from the year 2027. These matters received special attention at the Sub-Committee on Education Reforms, which convened under the chairmanship of Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.

Under the new framework, it is planned to include a total of seven subjects for the General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level examination, including History and Aesthetics. Additionally, arrangements have been made to introduce vocational education for Grades 10 and 11, and it has been decided to include modules on social harmony, law, and ethics for Grades 12 and 13.

As the initial step of the general education reforms, the preparation of modules, activity books, and teacher guides required for Grades 2 and 6 has already been completed. Related teacher training programs are already underway, and a series of special awareness programs on these new educational changes is scheduled to be held in the future.

Furthermore, a National Pre-school Education Policy has been drafted with the aim of formalizing pre-school education across the country. Accordingly, it was revealed that the regulation and registration of pre-schools, the preparation of curricula and teacher guides, as well as training programs for pre-school teachers, are currently underway.
