Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena today ordered the release on bail of Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa, who had been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) due to an investigation into money laundering related to the Airbus transaction.

The Magistrate ordered the MP to be released on a cash bail of Rs. 500,000 and two personal bails of Rs. 100 million each. In addition, the relevant guarantors are required to submit certificates obtained from their Grama Niladhari (village officer) to the court, and a travel ban has also been imposed on the suspect MP.

The Magistrate also strictly warned that if the suspect attempts to influence or threaten witnesses in any way, his bail order would be revoked. The next hearing for this case is scheduled to be recalled on October 14.

However, yesterday, Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa was further remanded until October 13 in connection with the alleged incident of receiving a bribe of Rs. 100 million, according to the case related to the Krrish transaction. Therefore, although he was granted bail in one case today, he had to return by prison bus because he did not receive bail in the other case.
