International School Director remanded for allegedly molesting a student, taking advantage of isolated opportunities.

Kottawa Acting Magistrate T. M. Sandanayake has ordered the director of an international school in the Kottawa area, who is accused of severely abusing and subjecting an eleven-year-old student to cruelty for a period of about four months, to be remanded until the upcoming 29th.

The person thus remanded is a resident of the Akuressa, Korambadeniya Road area. The police informed the court that eight students are studying residentially at this international school, which was started last January, and that the suspect director, who teaches Science and Mathematics, has been in charge of those children.

It has been revealed that this eleven-year-old victim student, a resident of Buttala, Unawatuna area, was abused when he was alone. Police reports also state that whenever the child protested, he was severely beaten and subjected to cruelty.

On the 17th, when the suspect attempted to abuse this student, the child resisted, and he was beaten. Afterwards, the child, who fled from school, went to his home in Buttala and revealed everything that had happened to his parents. After a complaint was made to the police and the child was admitted to Monaragala General Hospital, he was referred to a forensic medical officer. It was revealed there that the teacher had abused him in this manner, by beating and intimidating him, from last May until the 15th of this month.

After the Monaragala Hospital Police informed the Kottawa Police Station about the incident, the relevant suspect teacher was arrested. The suspect, who was produced before the Kottawa court on the 19th, was thus remanded until the 29th of next month.
