A clash at the SJB protest against 22, after the banner's side was changed

A tense situation arose yesterday (24) on the Parliament access road near the Polduwa Junction, Battaramulla, due to a protest organized by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya against the 22nd Constitutional Amendment. During the protest, a controversial situation developed among the crowd when a banner they brought was held upside down, which escalated into pushing and heated exchanges of words.

Due to this sudden chaotic situation, traffic flow on that road was severely disrupted.

Several public representatives, including Samagi Jana Balawegaya Members of Parliament Kabir Hashim, Harshana Rajakaruna, Rohini Kaviratne, and Chamindrani Kiriella, participated in this protest, which also received the support of a large number of party supporters.

The protesters here alleged that the proposed 22nd Constitutional Amendment would severely impact the country's democracy as well as the independence of the judiciary. Therefore, they urged the government to immediately withdraw this constitutional amendment, which adversely affects the country and its people.
