7 hospitalized due to a gas explosion in the kitchen of Polonnaruwa Kidney Hospital.

Seven staff members of the Polonnaruwa National Kidney Hospital who were injured in a sudden explosion in the hospital kitchen today (26) morning have been admitted to the Polonnaruwa General Hospital for treatment. A spokesperson for the Polonnaruwa General Hospital confirmed that three of them are in critical condition and are currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit.

The accident occurred between 4:00 AM and 4:30 AM due to the explosion of a gas cylinder in the kitchen, causing severe damage to the hospital building premises. However, it is reported that no patients who were hospitalized at the time, nor any healthcare staff including doctors, sustained any injuries.

As a measure to ensure the maximum safety of the patients, hospital authorities have immediately arranged to transfer them to other safe wards within the hospital as well as to the Polonnaruwa General Hospital. The Polonnaruwa Police, hospital administration, and a special team from the National Kidney Hospital are jointly conducting further investigations into the incident.
