The seventy-seven-year-old grandmother played 'Donkey' with her granddaughters.

Horana Chief Magistrate Ms. Lakmini Vidanagamage has sentenced a 77-year-old elderly woman, her two granddaughters, and a neighbor, who were arrested while gambling for money at a house in Uduwara, Anguruwathota, to a three-month suspended prison sentence. In addition to the prison sentence, the four suspects were also ordered to engage in 50 hours of community service each.

The court further ordered that the relevant community service activities should be carried out at a temple located near the area where the suspects reside. They were arrested during a raid conducted based on information received by the Anguruwathota Police regarding this illegal gambling den operated in a house in the Uduwara area, and were produced before the court on the 6th of last month.

The police revealed to the court that when police officers conducted the raid, another group of people who were gambling had fled, and one of those who fled was involved in an accident and required four stitches to his head. It was also revealed that after bringing the suspects to the police station, the Anguruwathota Police Station OIC had arranged for them to listen to a Dhamma sermon with the aim of improving their behavior.
