The full story of a double murder revealed: The army soldier was killed, and the beautiful young woman was taken to India and disappeared.

A lot of information has been revealed during the interrogation of a black belt karate instructor arrested in connection with the abduction and murder of a retired army warrant officer eight years ago, and the disappearance of another young woman who was taken to India. The 47-year-old B., a resident of Millawetiya, Kuruwita, is being questioned by the Criminal Investigation Department under a 90-day detention order.

This suspect, named Sumith Priyantha, maintained connections with organized criminals and drug networks, posing a threat to national security.

Accused of numerous crimes including vehicle robberies, extortion, and homicides, he was arrested on June 8th with a foreign-made pen-shaped firearm and a stock of live ammunition. Following a complaint received by the Inspector General of Police, a team including Sub-Inspector Piyal Dunusinghe of the Homicide and Organized Crime Investigation Division arrested the suspect in the Ranpokunagama area of Nittambuwa and subjected him to extensive questioning.

According to the information revealed, the 47-year-old retired army officer named Amarasiri Nissanka, a resident of Narangaspitiya, Kirindiwela, who was abducted and murdered on September 9, 2018, was killed due to a Wallapatta business dispute and a malicious relationship. The suspect, posing as police, broke into the officer's residence in Kirindiwela, assaulted him on the neck, and committed the murder, as the officer was an obstacle to the suspect's malicious relationship with the deceased officer's wife and with the intention of acquiring his property.

After the murder, the body was buried in a four-foot-deep pit in an 11-acre rubber estate in Millawitiya, Kuruwita, using a motor vehicle. However, fearing it would be discovered after about three weeks, it was exhumed. The suspect has admitted to placing the body in a fertilizer bag during the early hours and throwing it into the Kuruwita River from a bridge near the Kuruwita town police station, about a kilometer away, using a scooter-type motorcycle. Police officers inspected these locations on the 25th, guided by the suspect.

The suspect also arranged for the disappearance of 25-year-old Sunethra Rajakaruna, a resident of Eknaligoda, Kuruwita, who was in a romantic relationship with the suspect at the time of the murder. This was because she was aware of the details of the crime and the short messages sent to his wife. On February 2, 2019, he took her to India under the guise of a shopping trip, handed her over to an organized criminal named 'Darun' who was residing there, and then returned to Sri Lanka. Subsequently, information was received that she had disappeared.

Under the instructions of Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Asanka Karawita, Deputy Inspector General of Police Shani Abeysekera, Deputy Director Superintendent of Police Wijekoon, and Assistant Superintendent of Police Gamage, a team including Sub-Inspector Piyal Dunusinghe, Police Sergeant Mahesh (10033), Constables Liyanage (51904), Wijekoon (104808), Sandakalum (35769), Ubhayasinghe (104819), Kumara (104757), and women police inspectors are conducting further investigations.
