Shiran Basik, a powerful drug trafficker arrested in Dubai, and two other individuals suspected to be members of organized crime gangs, have been handed over to the Colombo Central Criminal Investigation Bureau for further investigations. These suspects, who were brought to Katunayake International Airport on Air Arabia flight 3L-708 operating from Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, were handed over to the relevant bureau under strict security measures after their statements were recorded by Criminal Investigation Department officers.

Shiran Basik, a 48-year-old resident of Kalubowila, Dehiwala, is an individual who fled the country in 2018 and had even been issued a red warrant by Interpol. He is one of the five main drug traffickers involved in supplying drugs to this country and is considered the most powerful drug trafficker after 'Wele Suda'. It has been revealed that he operated a networked drug trafficking operation targeting Colombo and Colombo South areas, and had been hiding in Dubai, posing as a wealthy individual.

He was arrested by Dubai Police on May 26th for the offense of possessing photos and videos on his mobile phone of missiles and drones used by Iran to attack the United Arab Emirates during the Iran-America conflict. Due to his direct connections with the Iranian drug network and this incident, he was also wanted by the United States of America, and a request for his extradition had been made by America. Although the authorities in that country were initially not prepared to hand him over to Sri Lanka, the Dubai Police took steps to deport him to Sri Lanka in response to special requests made by the Sri Lanka Police and security forces.

In addition to large-scale drug trafficking, he has also been accused of possessing firearms and sharp weapons, being a member of illegal gatherings, and committing acts of mischief. The police plan to conduct a special investigation into Shiran Basik's illegal assets, which are suspected to have been acquired through drug trafficking and organized crime.
