How five people traveling in a tractor died in the accident at Monaragala Black Bridge is revealed

Five pilgrims died and three others were seriously injured in a severe road accident that occurred yesterday morning near the Kumbukkana bridge on the Wellawaya - Monaragala main road. One of three tractors carrying a group of people from Palwatta and Horabokka areas, who were on their way to participate in a pooja at the Kabiliththa Devalaya, was involved in the accident.

The accident occurred when a tipper truck, loaded with sand and traveling at high speed from Ampara towards Matara, collided with a tractor coming from the opposite direction. Police investigations have revealed that the severe damage was caused when the tipper truck collided with an iron part near the rear wheel of the tractor, causing it to detach and fall onto the people who were seated on the side of the trailer.

Those who died in this unfortunate incident are a group of people aged between 21 and 55, residing in the areas of Horabokka, Lava Palwatta, Lubiniya, and Udahana. Among the deceased are a father and son from the same family. A. M. Nilakarathna Banda (55), A. M. Pasindu Dinesh (21), R. Sehan Tharanga (26), Iresh Devanid (55), and D. M. Roshan Tharaka (31) unfortunately lost their lives in this manner.

The three seriously injured in the accident have been admitted to the Monaragala District General Hospital and are receiving treatment. The drivers of both the tipper truck and the tractor have been arrested by the Monaragala Police in connection with the incident, and the traffic division is conducting further investigations under the instructions of the Monaragala Headquarters Police Inspector.
