Entering through the window of a female lawyer's office in Horana and stealing money

Horana Headquarters Police state that a suspect, who allegedly entered a lawyer's office located in a three-story office complex within the Horana Court premises through a glass window, stole money, and fled on a motorcycle, was arrested less than a day after the theft occurred. Police say that the theft from the lawyer's office, which is very close to the court, took place at a time when the court premises were crowded with police officers, prison officials, and members of the public who had come for court proceedings.

Police state that while court proceedings were ongoing and the lawyer was in her office, her head hit the glass window near the doorway, causing the glass to break. Due to the head injuries, she went to the hospital for treatment. After the lawyer went to the hospital, only the clerk remained in the office, and she too closed the office door and went to the court for an urgent official matter.

Police state that at that moment, the suspect entered the office through the hole in the glass window, which had been broken earlier when the lawyer's head hit it, took the clerk's money that was there, and then exited the premises. When the suspect was coming out of the office, two lawyers who saw him questioned him about where he was going and what he was doing.

Police state that the suspect, without any panic and acting very casually, took out his mobile phone and pretended to talk to the lawyer's clerk, saying, "Okay Miss, I took the stuff," and then left the premises in a way that did not arouse any suspicion from the two lawyers. Police also state that the suspect was unable to take the lawyer's money because the key to the drawer where the money was kept had been left in it.

Police state that the arrested suspect is a 25-year-old individual residing on a rental basis in the Seethadola area. Police also mention that the suspect had been obtaining legal assistance from this lawyer for some time, and the lawyer had appeared free of charge on several occasions not only for him but also for his relatives' court cases. It is also stated that information has been revealed to the police that the suspect has previously been involved in several incidents related to drugs and theft.

Information has been revealed that the theft was carried out in a planned manner, and investigations have shown that the suspect arrived on a motorcycle, wearing a helmet, to commit this theft. Information has also been revealed that the suspect has knowledge of security camera footage, and investigations have shown that he moved in a planned manner to avoid being captured by security cameras. Furthermore, police state that the motorcycle's number plate was arranged in a way that it could not be clearly seen, and to evade security cameras, the motorcycle was driven on the wrong side of the road instead of the correct route.

Information has also been revealed to the police that the suspect is a person heavily addicted to drugs. After examining a large number of security camera footages installed along the route the suspect traveled, the police were able to identify and arrest the suspect. Police state that the arrested suspect is scheduled to be produced before the court. Horana Headquarters Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
