As per Nanda Malini's last wish, there will be no funeral service.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake visited the Nanda Malini Music Academy last night (21) to pay his last respects to the late veteran singer, Visharada Dr. Nanda Malini. Prior to that, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya had also visited the academy.

The final rites for the body will be held today (22) at 5:00 PM at the Borella General Cemetery. In accordance with Nanda Malini's last wishes, no funeral service will be held, and the proceedings are expected to be very simple and modest.

Professor Sunil Ariyaratne further clarified the details regarding the funeral arrangements, stating,

“According to her last wishes, she had requested that after her passing, her body not be moved from her residence to another location. She had also requested that the proceedings be conducted in a very simple manner, and that no ceremonies or eulogies be held.

The 'Pansukula' (Buddhist funeral rite) will be held on Saturday at 10 AM. During that time, for about an hour, the public will not have the opportunity to pay their respects. Afterwards, the public will have the opportunity to pay their respects again until 3:30 PM. At 3:30 PM, the hearse will proceed along Parliament Road in Rajagiriya to the Borella General Cemetery. The cremation will take place there at 5 PM. There will be no re-opening of the casket or any ceremonial gathering at that point.”

A large crowd is gathering at her music academy to pay their last respects, and the hearse is scheduled to depart from the house at 3:00 PM.
