An investigation due to the video of an incident that took place inside the Ambalangoda Police Station

Following the circulation of a video on social media depicting an incident that occurred inside the Ambalangoda Police Station, the Inspector General of Police has ordered an immediate investigation into the matter. Accordingly, the relevant investigations have commenced under the leadership of a senior police officer serving outside the Elpitiya Police Division, under the control of the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Galle District.

The video footage shows a person behaving in a disorderly manner inside the Ambalangoda Police Station, accusing the police of assaulting his father. However, the police state that the elderly person mentioned in the video was arrested and brought to the police station on the night of the 24th due to excessive alcohol consumption and indecent behavior on the public road.

The police also state that the video footage shows signs of bleeding caused when the suspect fell while attempting to flee from the police during his arrest. Subsequently, on the following day (25th), the Ambalangoda Police admitted this person to Balapitiya Hospital and referred him to the Judicial Medical Officer. After being produced before the Balapitiya Additional Magistrate, the Magistrate ordered his release on bail.
