In the face of disruptions to global shipping caused by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, 14 luxury Lamborghini cars shipped from Italy have been diverted through Sri Lanka via an alternative transport route. These cars, brought to Sri Lanka's Hambantota Port by sea, were subsequently packed into seven 40-foot containers and transported by land to Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake.

This consignment of high-value vehicles brought to Katunayake Airport is scheduled to be sent to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and Doha in Qatar via air cargo services in the future.
