Youths arrested for assaults at the Malabe Poson rice dansala (video)

As depicted in a video that circulated on social media in recent days, five teenage suspects involved in the brutal assault of a young man near a Poson rice 'dansala' (alms-giving stall) organized in Malabe town have been arrested by Malabe police officers. The police state that these individuals, aged 16 and 17, are residents of Pattiyawatta Road in the Kothalawala area.

This brutal assault occurred when an argument regarding standing in the dansala queue escalated.




According to police investigations, the young man who was in the dansala queue told two individuals who tried to cut the queue and enter in front of him to go to the back of the queue. Following this instruction, an enraged group brutally assaulted the young man with security helmets and also with their hands and feet. A video containing scenes of this assault circulated widely on social media networks, creating significant discussion and commotion within society.

Based on the video clip circulated on social media and a complaint received by the police regarding the incident, Malabe Police immediately commenced investigations. Following extensive searches, police officers were able to apprehend these five suspects. The arrested group of young suspects is scheduled to be produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate's Court today (1), and Malabe Police are currently conducting further investigations to arrest other individuals involved in this assault.
