The 12th season of 'Sirasa Lakshapathi,' an educational program that has garnered the highest audience attraction in the history of Sri Lankan television productions, is scheduled to commence with a fresh look from the first day of August. Veteran Sinhala lecturer Mr. Upul Shantha Sannasgala will serve as the host for this season, and the official launch ceremony for this 12th season was held recently at the Stein Studios complex.
The Sirasa Lakshapathi program, created based on the world-renowned “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” program format, is also considered the first licensed television program in Sri Lanka. Mr. Lucky Dias, a veteran actor, served as the first presenter of this program, which began on Sirasa TV channel in 2010, until 2011. Subsequently, from 2011 to 2025, the program was presented for a long period by veteran journalist Mr. Chandana Sooriyabandara.
Later, Mr. Chandana Sooriyabandara left Sirasa institution and, working as an independent journalist, launched a program similar to Sirasa Lakshapathi called 'Jeevitayata Kotiyak' (A Crore for Life) through the Swarnavahini channel. Similarly, Shakthi TV channel, part of the MTV/MBC media network, broadcast a similar program in Tamil called 'Shakthi Maha Lakshadhipathi,' which became extremely popular among the Tamil-speaking community.
The 12th season of Sirasa Lakshapathi, brought for the wonderful Sri Lankans, will be broadcast on Sirasa TV every weekend at 7:30 PM starting from August 1st. Viewers who wish to participate live as contestants in this program can join by calling the phone number 7788.
