The true story of Dinesh, who committed suicide after coming on Facebook Live - Mother speaks

Following the incident where a young man named Dinesh, residing in the Karandeniya Madakumbura area, committed suicide live on Facebook, various false rumors spread on social media. Dinesh, who faced this tragic fate, was the eldest child in his family, working abroad, and the true circumstances behind his sudden demise have been revealed by his mother and close friends.

His mother further stated that the rumors circulating, claiming he made this decision due to a family land dispute or the transfer of land to an elder sibling, are completely false, and that a legal deed for the land where the house stands has not even been prepared yet.

Dinesh, the eldest son of this mother who worked tirelessly in the cinnamon peeling profession to raise her three children, received his education from Madakumbura and Karandeniya colleges. While studying for his Advanced Level exams, he joined the military, later worked in the apparel industry and a financial institution, and then passed the Korean language exam to go work in South Korea. He worked in South Korea for about four years, where he was known among his colleagues as 'Densil,' and later returned to Sri Lanka, only to go abroad again after a short period.

While abroad, Dinesh married a young woman named Minoli, residing in the Hingurakgoda area, with the intention of helping her. She had a child from a previous marriage, and Dinesh later arranged for her to come to South Korea, but due to her behavior and illicit relationships, a severe estrangement developed between them. As these family disputes escalated, Dinesh had to serve a prison sentence of over a year in Korea, and he was subsequently deported to Sri Lanka. Furthermore, he was banned from re-entering Korea for a period of ten years.

Deeply distressed by this series of events, Dinesh was preparing to go to Japan for work again. To find money for that educational course, his mother had resumed her cinnamon peeling job. Dinesh's younger brother and sister loved him dearly, and his mother emphasizes that there were no family property disputes. The family members state that Minoli had harassed them in various ways in the past, even preventing family members from entering the house, and that her actions severely tormented Dinesh's mind.

On the day of the incident, Dinesh spent time as usual, playing with friends in the afternoon. Around 12:30 AM that night, he decided to commit suicide by connecting live on his Facebook page. After a friend in Poland saw this and informed friends in Sri Lanka, a group of friends, including Indika Prabath, immediately rushed to the location, bringing his mother along. By the time they arrived, he had already passed away, and the friend had disconnected the live video.

Dinesh had changed his mobile phone password, which was later found written on the room wall. Immediately upon learning of the incident, Karandeniya Police arrived at the scene, conducted investigations for about two and a half hours, and took the body to the hospital. Dinesh had borrowed fifteen lakhs from a friend named Sujee, and his mother hopes to repay that loan somehow. Correcting the misleading news spread through social media, everyone emphasizes that no other young person or mother should have to face such a tragic incident.
