Sabaragamuwa University Faculty of Medicine commences

The official ceremony to hand over the newly constructed Faculty of Medicine complex at Sabaragamuwa University to student ownership was held yesterday (04) under the patronage of Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya. The opening of this modern Faculty of Medicine for the future benefit of the student community will be a significant step in the university's history.




This new Faculty of Medicine has been established on a vast land area of 20 acres, centering on the Ratnapura New Town. Currently, nearly 750 medical students are engaged in their higher education activities within this faculty, and steps have been taken to admit 162 new medical students for the current academic year alone.

Strengthening local and foreign bilateral relations, this massive Faculty of Medicine project has been successfully completed through joint financial grants provided by the Government of Sri Lanka and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. For this, the Government of Sri Lanka has invested 1,096 million rupees, and the financial contribution provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is 50 million US dollars.




Equipped with modern facilities, a comfortable dormitory system that can accommodate 500 students simultaneously has also been installed within this new Faculty of Medicine complex. In addition, an ultra-modern auditorium that can seat 1,060 students simultaneously for university events and various academic activities has also been included in this complex.
