Passport issuances decreased by 34,878

Data from the Department of Immigration and Emigration indicates a significant decrease in the issuance of passports during the first quarter of this year compared to last year. During this period, 65,351 passports were issued in January, 54,161 in February, and 50,356 in March.

Accordingly, the number of passports issued during the quarter is 169,868.

However, from January to March 2025, a total of 204,746 passports were issued, with 53,216 in January, 74,402 in February, and 77,128 in March, respectively. This represents a decrease of 34,878 passports. Excluding January, issuances in February and March have significantly decreased. It is noted that the slowdown in foreign travel due to instability caused by the Middle East conflicts, especially towards the end of February, has led to this drop in passport issuances. Furthermore, it is believed that the gradual recovery of the economy after the 2022 economic crisis has also contributed to a decrease in departures from the country.

According to data from the Department of Immigration and Emigration, 609,446 passports were issued from January to September 2025. The years 2022 and 2023 are considered to have issued the highest number of passports in recent times, with 911,757 and 908,722 passports issued respectively during those years. However, in 2024, this number decreased to 586,970.
