Chinese in Colombo clash - Dead body found in Eheliyagoda

The body of a Chinese national, who was abducted and went missing after a severe clash between two groups of Chinese nationals at the Colombo Port City premises, has been found in a thicket in the Karandana area of Eheliyagoda. In this clash, which originated from a monetary dispute, two other Chinese nationals were injured and admitted to a private hospital, while the abducted person was found by the police, having been murdered and left in the jungle.

Investigations revealed that the clash occurred while fishing on the beachfront of the Port City, during which the rival group forcibly abducted this individual. Upon inspecting a suspicious motor vehicle abandoned near the incident site, Colombo Port Police successfully recovered an air pistol from inside. Investigations are underway from several angles to determine whether this abduction and murder were carried out with the intention of concealing an organized money laundering operation or a previous transaction.

Meanwhile, two Chinese nationals, aged 34 and 38, suspected of being directly involved in the murder, were arrested at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake while attempting to flee the country. They were apprehended by Airport Criminal Investigation Department officials, acting on intelligence, when they arrived around 4:30 PM to board an Air India flight scheduled to fly to Singapore via Mumbai, India. They have since been handed over to the Colombo Port Police for further investigations.

The Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka, having paid close attention to this unfortunate incident, has officially requested the Sri Lanka Police to conduct a full and formal investigation into the incident and to promptly uncover the true facts. Furthermore, the Embassy has advised that the safety and legal rights of its citizens residing in the country be ensured, and that Chinese nationals in Sri Lanka pay greater attention to their personal safety. The Colombo Port Police are conducting further investigations under the instructions of Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police, Colombo, Mr. Nishantha Soysa.
