
Three girls who secretly escaped from a well-known children's home in the Panadura area with the aim of witnessing the Vesak festival's splendor have been taken into police custody in the Fort area of Colombo. This arrest was made by the Panadura Headquarters Police, and related police investigations have commenced following a complaint lodged by the manageress of the said children's home.
The three girls taken into police custody are aged 15, 16, and 17 years. According to police investigations, after escaping from the children's home, these girls first came to the Colombo area and viewed the Vesak pandals. It has been further confirmed that they did not stop there but also traveled to areas such as Gampaha and Kurunegala.
Subsequently, Sub-Inspector Chandika Dissanayake, the OIC of the Children and Women's Bureau of Panadura Police, received specific information that these three girls were returning to Colombo from Kurunegala. Accordingly, a police team that immediately swung into action took them into custody in the Fort area of Colombo.
This entire operation was carried out under the direct instructions of Panadura Senior Superintendent of Police, Mr. Nishantha de Silva, and under the direction of Headquarters Police Inspector, Mr. Upul Priyankara. For this raid, led by Sub-Inspector Chandika Dissanayake, Woman Police Constables A. D. Dilini (7106) and J. A. S. Gayathri (9374) also actively contributed.
