The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has issued a special clarification, completely rejecting a statement made by an individual named Varuna Rajapaksa at a press conference held by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB). The JVP media unit, issuing a statement, emphasizes that the said statement is false and baseless.
At that press conference held yesterday, the 26th, Varuna Rajapaksa stated,
"About two months ago, Charith Abeyasinghe called me one day and asked, 'Varuna, if Tilvin Silva calls you, would you talk to him?'... I told Charith 'Ayya' that. He said that a very close friend of his had called him and said that Anura Kumara Dissanayake wanted to meet the President and needed to meet him."
When he asked if I would talk if he called, I said, 'Charith, I don't need to meet. I don't need to talk because I finished everything I had to say by talking for hours and days fifteen years ago. However, if you're talking for some reason, there's no problem.' Later, as far as I know, Charith didn't meet. But then, as you know, a few days later, Charith Abeyasinghe said at a press conference that he had received an invitation from the government for this political discussion, from his side."
However, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna points out that the individual named Charith Abeyasinghe has never engaged in telephone communication with the party's General Secretary.
The JVP states that it is clear from this false statement that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya has become severely agitated and politically bankrupt with the emergence of underworld connections and bribery incidents. They also state that it is regrettable that the party has stooped to such a cowardly level as to make up and declare such fabricated stories at a press conference. The statement also mentions that neither they nor the current government have a need to recruit individuals into parties without considering their background, based on various political agendas.
The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna further points out that while some are attempting to divert public attention from criminal incidents and whitewash criminals through the said statement, it is an entirely futile exercise. The party, stating that it strongly condemns these false statements and accusations, also emphasizes that it will not hesitate to take strict legal action against individuals who spread such false propaganda in the future.
